The Fishing Stick by Willard Technologies
Every once in a while a new innovation in the fishing world comes along which grabs your attention right away. The “fishing stick” by Willard Technologies is one such product. This rod holder is one of the most unique and functional designs we’ve seen

Doug Willard, inventor of the “Fishing Stick,” is based out of Brampton, Ontario and has been on the scene for quite a few years. “I started about 8 years ago with the development of a beach umbrella anchor system; I needed something to hold the umbrella in the ground at my son’s baseball games!”

This small device worked so well that one of Doug’s family members, an avid angler, asked if this system could be incorporated into a rod holder somehow. Doug came up with this unique design in the process. The sliding Ring-Lock mechanism provides a secure hold on your rod while allowing for a single, quick and natural motion to set the hook when a fish strikes. It also provides a pivoting action which allows the weight of the reel to keep tension on the line until your able to take control. For a video on how well this works, check out www.willard-technologies.com
Doug has spent the past 3 year designing and testing the product, and it has been on the market for the past year. When asked about the design of the rod holder, Doug says: “I simply wanted a design that would accommodate all rods.” He has done so, since the “Fishing Stick” will hold rods from small ice fishing styles to a large ¾ inch diameter. Since durability was also a concern, the “Fishing Stick” is made of engineered resin and is coated for many years of trouble-free use.
2 Sizes are available: A short 16 inch version suited to ice fishing or attaching it to the side of your boat, and also a 4 feet high shore/surf fishing rod holder.
One of the features that we noticed right away was indeed the solid construction and aesthetic design of the product. We think Doug has hit one out of the park with this new product, and we will be field testing the “Fishing Stick” very soon!
